Our changing Prime Minister There is no way to better understand the thinking of public figures than by carefully analyzing their spoken words. It was quite refreshing to hear the Prime Minister of the country say in his recent speech to the nation, that his oath of Office compels him to protect the Constitution and the law, and the " people " of Trinidad and Tobago. In the very same speech he also spoke about what Selwyn Cudjoe called "Afro-Trinidadian" suggesting some sort of unfamiliarity and even disdain for the term. What this seems to indicate, is that he is now changing his way of thinking of the last five years, where he frequently spoke about the "peoples" of this country. He now condemns hyphenated Trinidadians, when one of his first acts in his first term was to change the unhyphenated Arrival Day holiday to Indian Arrival Day. I am sure there are many more shifts in the thinking of the Prime Minister that the nation would appreciate, or as many claim, he is just a hypocrite. Your comments here |
