- Chavez says Obama "illusion" over
By reuters.com : December 28, 2009
Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez said in a New Year's message the "illusion" around President Barack Obama was over and rich nations had left the world on the verge of ecological disaster. Chavez initially sought to foster good ties with Obama, shaking his hand and giving him a book at a regional summit. But he has been increasingly critical of late, saying Obama failed to curb "imperialist" policies in Afghanistan and Iraq, and was tolerant toward a coup leader in Honduras.
- HONDURAS : US LEGITIMISES COUP
By Yohannan Chemarapally - pd.cpim.org - trinicenter.com : December 28, 2009
At the OAS summit held earlier this year, Obama had told his fellow Latin American and Caribbean heads of state that the US seeks "a new chapter of engagement" with the region. The US state department had also issued statement after the coup that the US "would not be able to support" the outcome of an election" because they would not be "fair, free and transparent." But the Obama administration under pressure mainly from the Republican right wing abruptly changed tack and granted legitimacy to the elections and the military backed government. The Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez, had warned against trusting Washington on the issue of restoring democracy in Honduras from the very outset. Zelaya made the mistake of trusting Washington to be an honest broker and is now paying the price for his political naivety.

- VIDEO: The US-Colombian Military Agreement
By hondurasoye.wordpress.com : December 28, 2009
Faultlines has put together a video about the recent US agreement with Colombia regarding extensive use of its military bases. The Faultlines team was seriously handicapped in its ability to gain access to bases and people, but this tells its own story. In addition to a few Colombian government officials, Faultlines interviewed a mother whose son was killed by the Colombian military, a labor union leader, and a young Afro-Colombian. I fear for all three of them as their interviews were done openly and many people in Colombia have been killed for less.

- Barack Obama pursues former George Bush admin's Global War agenda
By John Pilger - exopoliticsnews.wordpress.com : December 28, 2009
When ignorance is Strength... In Afghanistan, his agents routinely extinguish wedding parties, farmers and construction workers with weapons such as the innovative Hellfire missile, which sucks the air out of your lungs. According to the United Nations, 338,000 Afghan infants are dying under the Obama-led alliance, which permits only $29 per head annually to be spent on medical care. Within weeks of his inauguration, Obama started a new war in Pakistan, causing more than a million people to flee their homes. In threatening Iran — which his secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, said she was prepared to "obliterate" — Obama lied that the Iranians were covering up a "secret nuclear facility," knowing that it had already been reported to the International Atomic Energy Authority.
