- Honduras Closes 2009 in Serious Economic Situation

The Honduras Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will close 2009 with a negative three percent drop confirming the strong restrictions of its economic growth. Together with the political polarization of the country since the coup of June 28 against the constitutional president, Manuel Zelaya, this nation was seriously affected by the world economic crisis.

Silva was by Isis's side when he was assassinated by the military on July 5th of this year. He can be seen (wearing a green shirt) in the following two photos, carrying Isis's body. Citing these photos, and despite the videos showing soldiers shooting into the crowd where Isis and César Silva peacefully protested together, the de facto government named Silva a suspect in Isis's death, and issued an arrest warrant. Silva was videotaped being brutally beat up by militarized police at a peaceful protest in front of the National Congress on August 12th.

This year we experienced the growth of political consciousness and the mobilization of a people who, from the left, we always believed to be asleep. Despite the title of this post, which can be considered a Durkheimian "social fact" by virtue of the statistics, it is actually much more likely that Renán, like Walter, was killed primarily for his non-violent resistance to fascism, and only secondarily for his sexual identity.

Honduran de facto regime forces attacked El Libertador daily Editor Rene Novoa, when he was travelling in a taxi to this capital''s central area, the mentioned newspaper reported on Tuesday. Army members and police agents made Novoa and his companion, whose name was not revealed due to security reasons, get off of a car beating them in the street.
