Following Human Rights Council resolution 12/14, entitled "Situation of human rights in Honduras since the coup d'état on 28 June 2009", which requested the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to submit to its thirteenth session a "comprehensive report on the violations of human rights in Honduras since the coup d'état", the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) sent a mission to the country from 18 October to 7 November 2009.

Members of the National People's Resistance Front (FNRP) from Honduras denounced the assassinations of two field workers, Ramón Ulises Castellanos and Miguel Sauceda, residents of the El Naranjo neighborhood in the departament of Atlántida in the past few hours. These two victims of the political repression carried out by the dictatorship led by Pepe Lobo had been kidnapped the day before.

On Sunday, at around 10:30 pm, gunmen shot dead journalist Nahúm Palacios and seriously wounded a companion on the Atlantic coast of Honduras, officials said Monday. Palacios, 36, was returning home on Sunday night in the Tocoa Los Pinos neighborhood, about 400 kilometers north of Tegucigalpa, when assailants attacked him, shot him with AK-47 automatic rifles and killed him, police said in a statement released to AP.
