The International Press Institute (IPI) today wrote an open letter to Honduran President Porfirio 'Pepe' Lobo Sosa, calling on him to ensure that the murders of journalists in the Central American country are promptly investigated and that the perpetrators are brought to justice before a climate of impunity takes firm root in the country. IPI also called on him to publicly denounce the killings.

On March 10, the U.S. House Sub Committee on the Western Hemisphere held a hearing to chart the course of their agenda in Western Hemisphere over the coming year. On March 12-15, the National Popular Resistance Front in Honduras (FNRP) held a national meeting to pave the way for a Honduran Constitutional Convention, even in the wake of last June's military coup and constant killings of FNRP activists.

"On June 28 (2010) we are going to hold a great poll of our people which is going to express our judgment, massively, in favor of a democratic and participatory constitutional constituent assembly in our country," said Rafael Alegrķa of the National Front of Popular Resistance, earlier this March.
