The negotiations, which started Tuesday in the capital, Port-of- Spain, come as Trinidad pushes to increase flights and trade between countries in Africa and South and Central America, said Sonia Francis- Yearwood of the public works ministry. Trinidad-based BWIA airline, [www.bwee.com ] which is partly owned by the government, recently announced plans for new flights to Cuba, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. The economies of both Nigeria and Trinidad rely heavily on oil and gas. Nigeria is Africa's largest oil producer, while the industry accounts for about a quarter of Trinidad's gross domestic product. Imoru Kubor, director of Nigeria's air transport management, was leading the eight-member Nigerian delegation in discussions with transport minister, Franklyn Khan and other Trinidadian officials. The Nigerians were scheduled to leave today, Francis-Yearwood said.[-End] On the web: - Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) http://www.gov.tt/ |
